Privacy policy
This policy explains what information Evez collects when you read our Snapchat guides, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It is written to be read rather than to be impenetrable.
Evez (“Evez,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website at evez.online (the “Site”), where readers can find independent, plain-English guides to how Snapchat works. We respect your privacy, and this policy describes our practices in full. By using the Site you agree to what is described here. If you do not agree, please stop using the Site.
The Site is read primarily in the United States and United Kingdom. Wherever you are, the rights sections below tell you what you can ask us to do.
- Email: contact@evez.online
- Operator: Evez
- Governing law: England and Wales
1. Information we collect
a. Information you give us
You do not need an account to read anything on this Site, and we do not offer one. We only hold personal information you actively choose to send us, which in practice means:
- an email you send to contact@evez.online, including your address, your name if you give it, and whatever the message contains;
- a correction, source suggestion, or report that a guide has gone out of date; and
- a copyright or DMCA notice, which necessarily includes your contact details.
We do not run a mailing list, we do not operate a comment system, and we do not ask for your name, address, phone number, or date of birth anywhere on the Site.
b. Information collected automatically
Like any web server, ours writes a log entry for each request. That entry can include your IP address, approximate location derived from it, browser type and language, device type and operating system, the referring page, the URL requested, the HTTP status returned, and the date and time. This is used to serve the Site, diagnose faults, and detect abuse. It is not used to identify you personally or to build a profile.
c. Cookies and similar technologies
We and our partners use cookies, pixels, and local storage to run the Site, remember your consent choice, measure traffic, and serve advertising. Sections 2 through 6 set out exactly which, and how to control them.
What we never collect
We do not ask for and do not knowingly collect government identifiers, financial account or card numbers, precise GPS location, health information, or any other category treated as sensitive personal information under applicable law. There is nowhere on this Site to enter any of it.
2. Cookies and how to control them
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. Some are set by us (“first-party”), others by services we use (“third-party”). We group them into three kinds:
- Essential. Needed for the Site to work and to remember your cookie choice so you are not asked on every page. These cannot be switched off.
- Analytics. Help us see which guides are read and where readers get stuck, so we can fix and improve them. Covered in sections 4 and 5.
- Advertising. Set by Google and its partners to select and measure the ads that keep the Site free. Covered in section 3.
Every browser lets you block or delete cookies, and block third-party cookies specifically. Doing so may change how parts of the Site behave. Where the law requires it, we show a consent banner so you can accept or decline non-essential cookies before they are set, and you can change that choice at any time from the cookie policy. Until you consent, advertising and analytics storage are set to denied under Google Consent Mode v2.
A full table of the individual cookies, who sets them, and how long they last is in the cookie policy.
3. Advertising and Google AdSense
Evez displays advertising through Google AdSense. That advertising is what keeps every guide free to read and keeps the Site free of paywalls and sign-up walls. In connection with serving those ads:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this Site or to other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this Site and other sites on the internet.
- Vendors and ad networks may place and read cookies, or use web beacons and your IP address, to collect information as a result of ad serving on the Site.
- Some ads may be personalised to your inferred interests. Others are non-personalised and selected only from the content of the page and a coarse location.
Your advertising choices. You can opt out of personalised advertising from Google at myadcenter.google.com (also reachable at adssettings.google.com). You can read how Google uses information from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. You can opt out of many other vendors at once through the Digital Advertising Alliance at optout.aboutads.info and youradchoices.com, or in the EEA and UK through the European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance at youronlinechoices.eu.
Where you are in a US state with an applicable privacy law, restricted data processing is enabled for your traffic, which limits Google’s use of that data to a defined set of permitted purposes. We do not control which specific advertisement you see, and we are not responsible for the products or claims in it.
4. Analytics: Google Analytics 4
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how readers find and use the Site so we can improve it. It uses cookies and similar identifiers to record pages viewed, time on page, traffic source, approximate city or region level location, and device and browser type. In GA4, IP addresses are anonymised and are not logged or stored by default, and Google processes this data as our service provider.
You can read how Google handles this data at policies.google.com/privacy. You can opt out of Google Analytics on every website you visit by installing the official browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, or simply decline analytics cookies in our banner.
5. Session analytics: Microsoft Clarity
We use Microsoft Clarity to see how readers actually move through a guide, through aggregated behavioural metrics, heatmaps, and session replay. Clarity records interactions such as mouse movement, clicks, scroll depth, and which pages were visited, and it automatically masks text and input fields. It is not designed to capture, and we do not use it to capture, passwords or payment details, neither of which this Site asks for anyway.
We use this to find usability problems: a step people miss, a table nobody scrolls, a heading that misleads. For more on how Microsoft handles the data, see the Microsoft Privacy Statement. You can prevent this collection by declining non-essential cookies in our banner or by sending a Global Privacy Control signal.
6. How we use information
We use the information described above to:
- operate, maintain, and secure the Site;
- publish and correct our guides;
- answer your emails, corrections, and copyright notices;
- measure which guides are useful and improve the ones that are not;
- select, deliver, cap, and measure advertising;
- detect and prevent fraud, abuse, scraping, and technical faults; and
- comply with our legal obligations.
7. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information for money, and we do not trade, rent, or license reader data to anyone. We share limited information with the service providers that make the Site work, each under its own policy:
| Recipient | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Google (AdSense) | Serving, capping and measuring advertising |
| Google (Analytics 4) | Aggregated audience and traffic measurement |
| Microsoft (Clarity) | Heatmaps and session replay for usability |
| Our host and CDN | Serving pages, caching, and abuse prevention |
| Our email provider | Receiving and replying to your messages |
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, to enforce our terms, to protect the rights and safety of readers or the public, or in connection with a sale or reorganisation of the Site, with notice where notice is required.
Please note that the use of advertising and analytics cookies may count as “sharing” personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising under several US state privacy laws. Section 10 explains how to opt out.
8. Third-party links
Our guides link out constantly, and deliberately: to Snapchat’s own support pages, to regulator and court documents, and to primary sources. We do not control those sites and we are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices. Once you follow a link, that site’s policy governs, not ours.
9. Children’s privacy
The Site is written for a general adult audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and our analytics tools are not intended for use by them. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email contact@evez.online and we will delete it. Note separately that Snapchat’s own terms set a minimum age of 13 for its service.
10. Your rights in the UK and the EU
Evez is operated from England and Wales and is the data controller for the processing described here. Under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have data erased where the grounds apply;
- restrict or object to processing based on legitimate interests;
- receive your data in a portable format; and
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out.
The lawful bases we rely on are:
| Processing | Lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Server logs, security, abuse prevention | Legitimate interests, Article 6(1)(f) |
| Replying to your email | Legitimate interests, Article 6(1)(f) |
| Analytics cookies (GA4, Clarity) | Consent, Article 6(1)(a) |
| Advertising cookies (AdSense) | Consent, Article 6(1)(a) |
| Responding to a legal obligation | Legal obligation, Article 6(1)(c) |
To exercise any right, email contact@evez.online. We respond within one month. If you are unhappy with the outcome you may complain to your national supervisory authority. In the UK that is the Information Commissioner’s Office.
11. Your rights in California and other US states
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA gives you the right to:
- know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect, the sources, the purposes, and the third parties we disclose it to;
- delete personal information collected from you, subject to exceptions;
- correct inaccurate personal information;
- opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. We do not sell personal information for money, but our use of advertising cookies may qualify as “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising;
- limit the use of sensitive personal information. We do not collect or use sensitive personal information for any purpose that would trigger this right; and
- not be discriminated against for exercising any of these rights.
Residents of other states with comparable laws, including Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Utah, Texas, Oregon and Montana, have broadly equivalent rights and may exercise them the same way.
To opt out of sharing for targeted advertising, decline non-essential cookies in our banner and use the advertising opt-outs in section 3. We honour Global Privacy Control signals: when we detect GPC from your browser we treat it as a request to opt out of sharing for that browser. For any other request, email contact@evez.online with “US privacy request” in the subject line. We may need to verify your identity, and you may use an authorised agent where the law allows.
12. Your choices, wherever you are
Regardless of where you live, you can always:
- block or delete cookies in your browser settings;
- decline non-essential cookies in our consent banner, and change that choice later;
- use the Google and industry advertising opt-outs in section 3;
- install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on in section 4;
- enable Global Privacy Control in a browser that supports it; and
- email us to ask what we hold about you.
13. Data security
The Site is served over HTTPS, is static HTML with no reader-facing database, and holds no accounts and no passwords, which removes whole categories of risk before they start. We apply reasonable administrative and technical measures to the correspondence we do hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
14. Data retention
We keep personal information only as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected for, or as the law requires. In practice: server logs for a short operational period; correspondence for as long as needed to resolve your message and a reasonable period after for our records; and analytics and advertising data according to the retention settings of Google and Microsoft respectively.
15. International transfers
Our providers operate internationally, so information may be processed outside the UK and EEA, including in the United States. Where that happens, transfers rely on adequacy decisions or on standard contractual clauses with supplementary measures as appropriate.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we make a material change we will post the revised policy here and update the date at the top of the page. Any genuinely new processing will be described here before it begins, not after. Continuing to use the Site after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
